sing. dance. feast. Experience a truly eclectic spring celebration. Participate in an Ancient Celtic ritual as we sing to the apple trees to ensure a bountiful harvest. Honor the farms when we partake in a sumptuous and filling feast on local & artisanal food. Join the circle for traditional, folk-style Balkan dancing (including a dance workshop at 3pm with Steve Kotansky) and dance, dance, dance to live Balkan music into the wee hours. Enjoy the rich sounds of driving Balkan brass with Zlatne Uste. Experience Aegean Macedonian Music Kavala with renowned clarinetist Lefteris Bournias, Seido Salifoski’s Romski Boji, and Raya Band!
Fiscal realities have led us to scale back this event, but we are still looking forward to the great gathering of friends, music, dancing, flowering orchard, food, fire, and more. Please help us spread the word! We will have a modest meal, nice mixed green salad, our farmhouse pasta primavera, Knoll Krest deviled eggs, Breezy Hill Apple Cider, and pies and other great treats. PLENTY OF CAMPING IN THE ORCHARD! On Saturday, May 2, the Brooklyn Food Conference will bring together a uniquely broad and diverse community of activists to discuss and learn more about the critical food issues of our time and what role we as neighbors can play to address them. We are working toward a food system that brings healthy, sustainable food to everyone. With a full day of workshops, plenaries, kids' programming and exhibits, there is something for everyone at this FREE event. Speakers include Dan Barber of Blue Hill, Anna Lappe of the Small Planet Institute, Raj Patel of Stuffed and Starved: The Hidden Battle for the World Food System, and LaDonna Redmond of Chicago's Institute for Community Resources Development and many others! Co-sponsors include: Park Slope Food Coop, Caribbean Women's Health Association, World Hunger Year, Brooklyn Rescue Mission, and Brooklyn's Bounty, and over 150 community organization partners.
